Film Props in the Playground

Here’s something that has impressed us since the first week we arrived in the UK: playground toys. There are usually a few toys (swings and roundabouts) that are a bit older, or more standard. But for the rest, the impression is given that the different parks are trying to compete with each other to produce the most intricate and attractive contraptions.

And many more amazing things. Big obstacle courses, or mock ship rigging, complete with crow’s nests.

But then, this past weekend, we happened upon a playground where there was a mishmash of old and new. And this:

Any idea what this is for?

After a lot of thinking, there was only one thing that came to mind:

I'm the King of the World!

The kids weren’t really sure what we were on about, and they were bemused at our finding this funny, but maybe one day they’ll understand.

Very funny! Most of the equipment is great in UK parks, but occasionally (as you noted) you just can’t imagine what the designers were thinking. In our old park in Wales, it was almost impossible to climb a very strange ‘climbing frame’ and then they expected you to slide down what looked like an inverted slide! Not very safe or comfortable for little boys đŸ™‚

Excellent! (as always Nick). I did laugh when I saw this. And most appropriate too what with it being a 100 years since the boat sunk.
