I’m Nick Tickner. Actuary, relocated from Cape Town to Hollywood. That’s Hollywood, south of Birmingham, UK, rather than the slightly more famous one.

While any mention of being an actuary usually dredges up the old joke about introverts, extroverts and shoes, I like to think that I’m somewhat removed from the stereotype. You can be the judge of that – there’s enough information on me in here now to make a reasonable call.

This blog started off being a commentary on the move from Cape Town to Birmingham, but has since branched out into other areas of interest, largely focusing on our experiences in the UK.

Hopefully, non-actuarial people won’t be thoroughly bored, non-South Africans won’t be linguistically excluded, and Britons won’t feel thoroughly slighted.

And if you’re wondering about the name, it’s a reference to an old Val Kilmer movie.
